How it actually works · asked at more than one firm

Do I have to upload the report every month, or does it remember?

Short answer

An AI assistant remembers its standing instructions, and this month’s data is handed over each run. A project keeps its instructions and whatever files you put in it, and it only sees what’s there. It doesn’t reach into your other chats or go looking for the new report on its own.

Why people ask

That either it forgets everything and the work has to be explained again, or it remembers everything and that is its own problem.

The longer answer

Think of it as a colleague with a standing brief and no memory of last month’s numbers. The brief stays. The numbers are handed over fresh.

If you want it to pick up the new report without being handed it, that is a connection to wherever the report lives, which is a different thing from memory. See what connecting your email or files gets you.

Where AI falls short
