Trust and data safety · asked at more than one firm

Is my data being used to train the AI, and can I turn it off?

Short answer

Whether AI trains on your data depends on the plan, not the tool. On business and team plans, the major vendors don’t use your inputs, outputs or connected data for training, and that’s the default. On personal accounts it’s a setting each person can change. Check which plan your team actually uses before anything else.

Why people ask

That something confidential, typed in once, becomes part of the model and resurfaces for someone else.

The longer answer

The same product behaves differently depending on who is paying for it. A personal account and a business account of the same assistant can have opposite defaults.

So the first question in any firm is which accounts people are really using. If it is a mix of personal ones, that is the thing to fix. What to do when staff use personal AI accounts covers the order to do it in.

For the specifics, the AI tool register lists each tool plan by plan, with a link to the vendor’s own page and the date we last checked it.

Where AI falls short
